More police expected in Campbell River this summer

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C – Campbell River will see more police officers in the downtown core this summer.

The RCMP says lakes around the area will also see more patrols.

The downtown core has many events and the RCMP hopes the extra patrols will make the city a peaceful summer spot for tourists and community members.

Spokesperson Constable Maury Tyre says having police at community events makes people feel safe.

“People in Campbell River really seem to enjoy seeing police out and about at events, and it is definitely a key to Community Policing.”

Officers will also patrol nearby lakes to make sure boat operators are licensed, sober, and that all the necessary safety equipment (especially life jackets) are on everyone’s boats.

Tyre added that the police patrols will be out all summer to make sure everyone follows the law.

“We want to make sure everyone stays safe on the roads as we see an increase in traffic on Vancouver Island.

“Simply put, if you plan to drink or smoke marijuana, plan to have a safe way home and enjoy responsibly.”

If you would like to report any criminal activity or an impaired driver, call the Campbell River RCMP at (250) 286-6221.
