Campbell River Spawning Gravel Placement Project receives $188,669

The Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program has provided funding to restore salmon habitat in Campbell River.

The money will help the Campbell River Salmon Foundation with the Campbell River spawning gravel placement project.

The project includes the construction of a single, 1,500-square-metre spawning
bed at Site 7 where blocked gravel has reduced Chinook spawning habitat.

This project will provide a location for an additional 150 Chinook spawning pairs.

The design would include features to prevent the washing away of spawning gravel during high flow events. Restoration of this spawning habitat would benefit Coho, Chum, and Steelhead populations.

The Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program approved approximately $1.9 million for 33 fish and wildlife projects to be implemented on Vancouver Island between April 1st and March 31st of 2020.
