Woman looking for help finding hurt dog

A Campbell River woman is asking for the community’s help in tracking down her dog.

Plessa Walden was taking her dog Briah out of the car when she noticed a tangle in the leash. Briah bolted away as soon as the leash was unclipped.

“The second I undid it, she bolted… and that was completely unexpected. I think maybe the (traffic) noise from Dogwood scared her,” Walden said.

“She ran from Evergreen up towards the (Flying) Coachman and across Dogwood. She made it across, halting traffic in all directions, then tried to come back. When she tried to come back, she was hit by a car.”

Walden says it happened on Tuesday afternoon. The nine-year-old Wheaton terrier then ran off in the direction of the Campbell River hospital.

She thinks if Briah was able to run off, her injury may not be too severe.

“I figured she’s probably hiding in someone’s hedge, in the carport, or behind the shed,” she added.

Walden says Briah is a rescue dog and is very timid. She can’t bark, and Walden says she may not be able to cry out if she’s trapped somewhere. She describes Briah as lean with blond fur and a blue collar with tags.

Walden also says she wants to reach out to the woman who hit Briah. She says the woman stayed at the scene and helped to find her even though she had other obligations.

“It didn’t occur to me until later on… I didn’t ask how she was, how her car was. Never occurred to me at that time. I still would like to know that she’s ok and let her know that I’m sorry that she had to be a victim in this too,” she said.

“I hope she’s ok.”
