Awatin Aborignal Arts broken into for the third time

A local Indigenous store has been broken into for the third time this year.

The most recent incident comes four days after the second break-in

Alana Smith, sister of co-owner Ernie Smith, says the suspect broke into Awatin Aboriginal Arts through the back this time.

The incident was caught on surveillance once again. She says the person’s face was covered, just like the last time.

“But it looked like the same person… they had the same shoes on,” Smith said.

She adds the individual stole weaved jewelry.

“(They also damaged) the display cases where the weaved jewelry was, and the back window.”

The store was closed on Tuesday for repairs but has since opened again.

An individual broke into the store early last Friday and stole some jewelry.

If you have information on the most recent incident or the previous break-in at Awatin, you are asked to call the Campbell River RCMP.
