City wants feedback on Rockland roundabout design

The City of Campbell River wants to hear what you think about a new roundabout.

Concepts for the Rockland roundabout have been approved during the last Committee of the Whole meeting. The city will host open houses and put together surveys to get the community’s feedback.

The survey will be asking for feedback on the design, as well as for their preferred options.

The first three proposed features included a tidal pool, the Big Rock Legend and a salmon. After discussions, the council decided to remove the Big Rock Legend from the options. Now, the options are a tidal pool, a salmon, DNA and a medicine wheel. The options will be shown to stakeholders first for feedback, then to the community.

The feature concepts are meant to reflect aspects of Campbell River’s character.

The roundabout will be installed to help manage traffic in the area, with the middle having enough space for an architectural feature. It will be built in 2020.

There is no word yet on when the online survey will be available or when the open houses will be, but they are proposed for late summer or early fall. The city says staff aim to bring all the feedback in time for the council’s October 7th meeting for a decision on how to move forward.
