Campbell River teen representing Canada on international stage

Emoni Bush may be young, but she’s passionate and determined to do her best.

Which is why she’s set to go to Cairo and represent Canada at the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship.

Bush is one of two girls from BC who will travel to Toronto and train with the rest of the team there until they have to go to Egypt.

Bush started playing volleyball at 13. She was still in middle school when Coach Jacky Chase called her to play for the senior girls team at Carihi. The next few years saw Bush playing with girls two to three years older than her.

But her mom Nadgelin Cliffe says she’s an eager learner and very coachable, which has helped the 16-year-old excel.

Bush is also a member of the Wei Wai Kum First Nation and she says it’s an honour to represent the nation on a bigger stage.

“It’s a lot of pressure, but I enjoy it,” Bush said.

“Pressure’s good, it makes you play better!”

She says this is bringing fun and joy to her nation, which she feels is part of what motivates her.

Bush leaves Campbell River to join the Youth National Team tomorrow.
