Applications open for foodies with business ideas

If you have a food business idea, the City of Campbell River has something for you.

The city is taking applications for those who want to participate in the Good Food Biz Incubator.

The city is launching the program in partnership with Spring Activator. The program runs for 12 weeks, starting on October 1st.

“People are seeking more local and specialty food options, and attendance at the July and August food innovator events confirmed that there’s an interest in the local community to run this incubator session,” says Rose Klukas, Campbell River’s economic development officer.

“Good Food Biz will provide the knowledge and tools for businesses that are getting started or for those wanting to pivot in a new direction or grow into an even more successful business by assessing and building on the local appetite.”

Entrepreneurs will learn the ins and outs of the food industry through hands-on experience. They will also learn the following:

  • Determining if a food business idea has potential
  • Turning an idea into a profitable concept
  • Refining a concept and gaining valuable skills that can be applied immediately
  • Fostering the ability to develop innovative ideas and products

Detailed information on the session as well as application information can be found here (LINK HERE). The deadline to submit applications is September 14th.

The food business incubator also supports the city’s Agricultural Plan. One of the goals of the plan is to have around 10 per cent of the food available in the city be produced locally.
