Habitat Vancouver Island North receives new truck

A new truck is coming to Habitat’s Campbell River build site.

Habitat Vancouver Island North won the truck through Nissan Canada Foundation. The foundation invited local Habitats across Canada to submit a proposal that demonstrates their relationship with a Nissan dealership.

The proposals also asked each Habitat to describe why they need a new vehicle and how the vehicle will help them serve families in their communities.

Habitat Vancouver Island North won this year’s contest.

And now, a new Titan is coming.

Tom Beshr is the Director of Development for Habitat Vancouver Island North. He says they’ve been applying for a vehicle for the last five or six years. This year marks the first time the North Island wins a vehicle.

“It’s a very very big deal for our construction people. It’s a full-sized Nissan Titan with four doors, holds six people, plus a full pickup in the back. It’s replacing our 1979 Dodge truck,” Beshr said.

“Our build people are super happy. Not only do they get this beautiful build truck, but it’s also super functional. It will completely support our activities at the build sites. It will transport our people in comfort and it’s just a great gift.”

Beshr adds the truck will be used at the Campbell River site primarily, but will still be used at the Comox Valley build from time to time.

“We’ll be serving 21 families by the end of next year and this vehicle is going to be instrumental in making that machine run. Delivering goods and people to our build sites and getting more families into affordable housing.”
