Campbell River residents charged with arson

Two residents from Campbell River have been charged with arson in connection to a house fire.

It happened on June 25th at 2335 Henderson Avenue.

The Campbell River RCMP says a warrant was issued for Eddie Cliffe and Gwen Olney following the investigation.

Sgt. Dave Johnson says Olney turned herself in at the Campbell River courthouse on Wednesday and was released on a recognizance with several conditions. Her first court appearance is set for September 9th.

Johnson says Cliffe also turned himself in at the Campbell River courthouse on Thursday. Cliffe is currently waiting for an appearance before a judge.

Johnson says the investigation was “quick and thorough” because of the danger the fire caused.

“Any house fire possesses a significant danger to the citizens in the surrounding area, not to mention the danger to first responders that attend the blaze and investigate the blaze after the fact,” he said.

“A house fire that is deliberately set is particularly concerning as it is a dangerous situation that is totally preventable.”

Johnson adds the detachment would like to thank the public for all the information brought to the police in regards to this investigation.
