Global Climate Strike happening in Campbell River

A strike is being organized in Campbell River.

It’s one of many strikes being organized throughout various communities as part of a “Global Climate Strike”. People are invited to walk out of their homes and workplaces to join young people.

Campbell River students have been striking every Friday for some months now, following in the steps of the young Swedish activist Greta Thunberg. One of their goals is to keep doing Friday walkouts until the city bans plastic bags and single-use plastics.

Students say this is the first step towards climate action.

The Global Climate Strike scheduled for September 20th is calling residents of all ages to gather in Spirit Square at noon.

It promises to be the biggest climate change strike.

An organizer could not be reached for a comment in time for publication.
