Campbell River’s Cedar Elementary School has been adopted.

It’s one of 182 “high-need” elementary schools across Canada that’s taking part in the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation’s Adopt-a-School program. The fundraiser connects the Coles bookstore in Driftwood Mall in Courtenay with the school and the rest of the community for its library.

Cedar’s library budget right now is less than $30 per student, a figure that Indigo calls “inadequate.”

There’s a new twist to the program this year. On top of in-store fundraising there’s also a book registry. Each school has one and if you buy a book from the registry Indigo matches the donation with an additional copy of each book purchased.

Indigo says 100 per cent of all the money raised in-store will go to Cedar Elementary. You can make a donation until October 6th.
