The City of Campbell River is launching a new social grants program and it’s inviting community groups to apply.
The city is hosting workshops to help various organizations develop and put together applications. The workshops are also a time for organizations to give feedback on how to improve the grant program.
Campbell River’s social grant program provides $100, 000 each year to enhance community wellbeing through innovative solutions to local challenges.
“It’s rare for a community our size to have a grant program that helps local organizations address a range of social issues faced by vulnerable people. In the past, Council has tried to address funding requests for social issues in an ad hoc manner with no designated source of funding,” Mayor Andy Adams said.
“This new funding program will be founded on a results-oriented approach that benefits the entire community.”
The city says the program supports seed funding, small capital purchases, as well as projects by not-for-profit and charitable groups. Organizations must apply for a minimum of $5, 000 to generate meaningful impact.
Mary Catherine Williams is the executive director of Volunteer Campbell River. She says they appreciate the program.
“Funding like this can make a huge difference in our community by supporting the work of non-profit organizations responding to important issues,” Williams said.
“We also appreciate that council is seeking feedback about the program at this early stage.”
