Short police chase ends in arrest

The Campbell River RCMP has made an arrest after a traffic stop.

At around 5:40 am on Sunday, the police responded to a report of a truck being stolen from a resident’s driveway.

The RCMP located the vehicle as they were patrolling and conducted a traffic stop. Police say the driver of the truck decided to flee and collided into a police car. The truck continued to travel a short distance away but failed to make a left turn, hitting a commercial building.

Officers were at the scene immediately and took the driver into custody.

Police say the driver is a Campbell River resident already known to police. They appeared before a Justice of the Peace later on Sunday.

There were no injuries to anyone during the incident. The building sustained minimal damage. Police investigation continues and even though there was little public traffic at the time, the Campbell River RCMP is asking witnesses to come forward.
