Water safe to drink, roads still closed on South Alder

Flooding has caused a closure on South Alder Street between Frances and Garnet.

That’s due to a water main break in the area this morning.

The city’s Director of Operations Drew Hadfield says they estimate water will be back on for residents this evening. But he says crews are still investigating the cause of the break.

He adds the water is safe to drink.

“There’s no problem with the water at all. There have been people who’ve been concerned that there’s a boil water advisory that’s been issued, but that’s not the case,” Hadfield said.

“The water quality is still good. There may be some cloudiness in the water. If that’s the case, what we recommend residents do when the water comes back on is just to let the water run for 15 to 20 minutes just to get the cloudiness out of the water, and that’ll clean your system out.”
