Local artist designs Campbell River-inspired shoes for contest

A Campbell River artist is asking you to support her.

Mellissa Davis designed Campbell River-inspired shoes and has now entered her creation in Vans’ contest.

She says the contest is open internationally and there are many others who have submitted their designs.

Davis says she has to be in the top ten in order to move on to the next round. But in order to get to the top ten, she has to get enough votes. And should her design get enough votes, she might just win.

She adds her sister let her know about the contest.

“It was an Instagram ad that my sister tagged me in, and I thought it would be fun,” she said.

Davis currently stays at home with her kids but she says she’s always loved art and painting. She says with her love for the water and Campbell River’s scenic view, it just made sense to join in.

“I’ve lived in Campbell River for the last four years and in Quadra for a year. I’ve always loved the shoreline there, especially Big Rock. I always have to ferry in, because I liked going on the ferry when I was on Quadra. And I knew with this kind of contest, you kind of have to find something that you think people will want on a shoe.”

“And I couldn’t think of anything better than Quadra because that’s what I would want on a shoe.”

“I’ve always thought the surf and skate culture of Vancouver Island goes well with the Vans shoe, because it’s a skater shoe.”

Voting for this round is open until October 13th. To vote for Davis and to see her design, visit this link.
