Service group’s fundraiser to help various local organizations

Altrusa’s Campbell River chapter is putting on its biggest fundraiser of the year.

Barb McLeod is the fundraising chair for the group. She says they’re looking forward to putting it on and raising money to help other local groups.

“This fundraiser is what we’re calling a Garden Expo. There’s a variety of things going on,” McLeod said.

She says attendees can walk around the Community Centre and look through the vendors’ tables full of garden-related items. McLeod adds a well-known garden expert Brian Minter will be at the event as a feature speaker.

“For the last hour (of the event), people can again mix, wander, purchase raffle tickets, 50/50 draw and enjoy a cup of coffee.”

McLeod adds that people can actually purchase raffle tickets ahead of the fundraiser from a various stores in Campbell River, including Hygro Gardening Supplies in Campbellton and the Willow’s Farm Market and Garden Centre.

She says they’re not raising money for a specific organization in Campbell River, but one of the initiatives they do want to keep in mind is “Baby’s Best Chance”, a project they collaborate with the Campbell River Family Services on.

“What we do is our group supplies up to ten gift bags a month for disadvantaged new mothers in a variety of situations who have very little for their newborn babies… funds from our fundraiser goe to support that or to the bursaries that we give in the community. Any of our projects, our fundraising dollars go to.”

Altrusa is an international non-profit organization that partners with other local organizations to promote partnership, literacy, and other service projects.

Altrusa Campbell River’s Garden Expo is set for October 19th. For more information on tickets, call Barb McLeod at 250-286-3422.
