Reports of police presence in Stories Beach area

The Campbell River RCMP has confirmed reports of a police presence in the Stories Beach neighbourhood.

The detachment’s media liaison, Const. Maury Tyre, said officers “are conducting a ground search in the area related to an investigation.”

Asked if it’s connected to yesterday’s homicide on Vermont Place, Tyre said he was “not at liberty to discuss” the nature of the investigation.

He did note that there is no threat in that area to public safety.

At roughly 2:30am Wednesday, RCMP responded to a call of shots fired on the quiet street in an Ocean Grove neighbourhood known as ‘Little America’ because the streets are named after U.S. states.

When they arrived, they found a man’s body outside a home at the end of the cul-de-sac.

It’s the city’s first homicide of 2019.

Yesterday, investigators were at the scene on Vermont Place for several hours before clearing the area before midnight.
