Conservation Officer Gord Gudbranson says Thursday afternoon the cat was following and making pouncing gestures to a man walking his dog on a trail in the Beach Drive area. Officers investigated and brought in the hounds, but the they couldn’t find the cougar at that time.
Later that evening a cougar was reported to be in a yard, when officers responded they found the animal and destroyed it.
Gudbranson reminds everyone if they see a cougar to yourself look big, face the animal and slowly back away.
He adds, any encounters with aggressive or threatening animals should be reported to the conservation service at 1-877-952-7277.
