Campbell River’s Harle takes silver at skiing World Cup

A local skier has dazzled his way to a silver finish in Beijing.

Teal Harle took second at the Freestyle Big Air World Cup at the future home of the 2022 Winter Olympics.

The Campbell River native pulled off a first in his career at the competition on Saturday. He executed a switch 1800. That’s a move that involves five complete rotations following a backwards takeoff.

Harle’s 190.00 was just a quarter-point behind gold medallist Birk Ruud of Norway. Jasper Tjader of Sweden rounded out the top three, putting up a 183.00.

The games in 2022 will see big air skiing make its Olympic debut. Harle competed in his first Olympics at PyeongChang in 2018 where he placed fifth in slopestyle.
