Campbell River RCMP to place extra focus on domestic violence

Police officers often deal with domestic violence-related crimes.

These crimes can present the greatest ongoing risk to those involved.

Cst. Maury Tyre says Campbell River RCMP will be placing more focus on domestic violence awareness and prevention in 2020.

“We do have a domestic violence coordinator,” Tyre says. “That was looked this year as one of the things we can really focus on, to try and get the message out and get more awareness in regards to domestic violence inside of the community.”

In efforts to try and reduce domestic violence, RCMP wants to make people more aware of the services available to assist them and “in a lot of cases, to show perhaps some of the escalation that happens inside of abusive relationships.”

A monthly report will inform the Campbell River community of how many domestic related files police attend in town.

It will also share domestic violence stories without naming victims or the accused.

The monthly Domestic Violence report will be published on the first Thursday of every month on the Campbell River RCMP website.
