Tomorrow is the final day students can register for Bowl for Breath

Students will soon hit the lanes while helping people with cystic fibrosis live longer and healthier lives.

The 32nd annual Bowl for Breath is taking place at the Campbell River Bowling Centre on Feb. 8th and 9th.

Elementary, middle and secondary school students are reminded tomorrow is the deadline to hand in registration forms, which are provided by school coordinators.

Chris Black, volunteer with Cystic Fibrosis Canada Campbell River Chapter, says all proceeds go towards fighting the disease.

“All the funds raised go to Cystic Fibrosis Canada to help in the fight against cystic fibrosis,” Black says. “It’s a very serious life-threatening inherited disease and the most common inherited disease in children and young adults.”

It affects mainly the lungs and the digestive system, but in cases where the lungs are most seriously affected, taking a breath is a difficult chore.

Cystic fibrosis can starve the body by interfering with the absorption of nutrients as food travels through the digestive system.

For over three decades, Bowl for Breath has proudly been based in Campbell River raising a total of around $370,000.

“Thanks to the money that has been raised in the past years through Bowl for Breath, we’ve been able to fund very important research and help improve clinical care for people with cystic fibrosis,” Black adds.

Students will bowl two games of their choice and can collect pledges or make a minimum $10 donation to the Campbell River Chapter.

Those who participate are eligible for all kinds of prizes and for every $50 a student raises, their name will be entered into a draw for a helicopter ride for five.

If registration forms are not returned to schools by tomorrow, give organizer Kim Wood a call at 604-614-9098 for late registration.
