Campbell River one of three finalists for Open for Business Award

Campbell River is among the top finalists in the large community category for Small Business BC’s Open for Business Award.

The City was nominated for its TecHatchery initiative, a program promoting the growth of education and training in technology-based companies while providing access to funding opportunities.

“TecHatchery is an incubator that brings people and businesses together to expand our already-growing tech ecosystem,” says Rose Klukas, the City’s economic development officer. “The success of several initiatives in 2019, such as the NexStream Tech Competition, the City’s first Hackathon and the continued demand for the Modern Entrepreneur workshops provided the momentum to establish TecHatchery.”

The technology advisory team at Campbell River Area Angel Group fosters the growth of TecHatchery.

“Small Business BC recognizes communities that create a welcoming and friendly environment for small businesses and TecHatchery is a perfect solution for start-ups that see the many benefits of establishing a business outside larger urban environments,” says Mayor Andy Adams.

Campbell River won the Open for Business Award in 2018 for its work on the Modern Entrepreneur Series.

The 2020 winners will be announced at the Vancouver Convention Centre on Feb. 21st.
