Local Rotary Clubs raise thousands for Campbell River Hospital Foundation

The Campbell River Hospital Foundation has been presented with a big donation from local Rotary clubs.

Just over $18,000 in proceeds from last month’s March for Children has been given to the foundation.

Keltie McKale, event and communication director at the Campbell River Hospital Foundation, says the annual march has brought in thousands year after year.

“It’s both the Rotary clubs of Campbell River,” says McKale. “The Campbell River Daybreak Rotary and the Campbell River Rotary Club come together and stand at intersections all over Campbell River with their buckets and their smiley faces. People dig money out of their wallets and change holders and throw it into their buckets.”

At the end of the day, both clubs put all funds raised together and later present a cheque to the foundation.

“The amount of money that they’ve raised is a massive amount for our foundation and we’re just really grateful to have them on board and to be supporting the kids here,” McKale adds.

This year, the money will go towards the purchase of two resuscitation carts and a respiratory analyzer for respiratory therapy.

A resuscitation cart is very useful in an emergency when there is a sick baby, in a hospital nursery or in the operating room.

Meanwhile, a respiratory analyzer is used to assess patients with home oxygen, disease diagnosis, surgical and treatment plans and the monitoring of lung transplant candidates post-transplant care.

There are approximately 3000 diagnostic tests performed on more than 1800 patients annually in the Respiratory Therapy Department.

Since it began in the 1950s, March for Children has generated more than $420,000 for the Campbell River Hospital Foundation.
