‘Network HUB’ to provide information and resources to seniors in Campbell River

Seniors in Campbell River will soon have a new service aimed at reducing isolation.

United Way Central & Northern Vancouver Island and the City have teamed up to co-fund The Campbell River Seniors Network HUB.

“It’s a project that came out of the Campbell River Seniors Network, where about 35 agencies collaborate,” says Kristi Schwanicke, community impact officer.

Based on a series of community discussions, the HUB was recognized as the most effective way to address informational needs.

“This was identified as being of great value and need in our community. It serves a diverse range of seniors with diverse needs while providing reliable resources and information for not only seniors but caregivers and physicians alike,” Schwanicke says.

Local research has shown that many seniors have a difficult time accessing information on available services, programs and benefits.

The HUB will be the first of its kind in the area, acting as a drop-in space where seniors can access information and receive support, specifically navigating health and social services.

This initiative is made possible through United Way’s Community Development Grant Program and the City of Campbell River’s Social Grant Program.

United Way’s Community Development Grant Program encourages the collaboration between community agencies to fill gaps in service that address complex social issues.

The HUB is currently in the development stage, which includes confirming the service model, location and securing additional funding for ongoing coordination.

There is no set time on when it will be up and running.
