Campbell River grocery shoppers raise thousands for food bank

The Campbell River Real Canadian SuperStore is celebrating success.

$4,358 and 18,864 lbs. of non-perishable food was collected during the 2019 Holiday Food Drive.

It’s all in support of the Campbell River & District Food Bank.

Debbie Willis, manager of the Food Bank, says the drive came at an important time of year.

“We are always so appreciative of the effort and generosity on the part of both store colleagues and their customers,” says Willis. “This will ensure well-stocked shelves for us and that’s a huge thing for our organization and for those individuals and families who rely on our support.”

As the number of people who depend on food banks continues to grow, SuperStore staff and those who donated helped many put food on the table over the busy holiday season.

“We have a long history of colleague-led initiatives supporting those in need here in British Columbia,” says store manager Chrissy Brady. “The food drive is a great example of this community support, and we want to thank our customers and colleagues for making the 2019 Holiday Food Drive so successful.”

It ran from Nov. 29th to Dec. 24th not only at the local SuperStore, but all Loblaw locations.

A total of over $210,000 was raised province-wide this year.

Since the drive it began in 2009, stores across Canada have raised more than $24 million for food banks, with over $2 million of that total raised here in B.C.
