Apartment fire on Island Highway contained to one unit

Officials are investigating an apartment fire in Campbell River.

Deputy fire chief Kelly Bellefleur said it started from garbage stored on a balcony of a complex in the 700 block of Island Highway.

The garbage was up against some siding which began to burn, melting some of the soffits. 

It was put out quickly and no one was displaced, but one person was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The fire was contained to just the one unit.
