SRD parks, facilities close amid COVID-19 spread

To help stop the spread of COVID-19, the Strathcona Regional District is closing some of its parks and facilities until further notice.

They include:

  • Mitlenatch Park,
  • Hagel Park,
  • Maple Park Community Garden,
  • Cortes Island Skate Park, and
  • Blenkin Park facilities (playgrounds, swings, tennis/basketball court and skatepark)

All other district parks and trails will remain open.

The district is reminding you that while in a park and on trails, beach accesses and wharves, you should practise social distancing, by staying at least six feet apart from other people.

Preliminary studies have shown that COVID-19 can live up to three days on plastic and steel surfaces.

You’re asked to take extra precautionary measures and practise self-sanitizing if touching public surfaces such as rails and handles.

If you are feeling unwell or have been in contact with someone that has tested positive for COVID-19, stay away from district parks and trails and self-isolate at home.

Information will be shared as it comes available on this website and on the SRD’s social media channels.

The district doesn’t have jurisdiction over BC Parks that lie within its jurisdictional boundaries so you can see more about those at this website.
