Administrator contract at Comox Valley Seniors Village extended by Island Health

Vancouver Island Health has extended the contract of the administrator at the Comox Valley Seniors Village.

Temporary administor, Susan Abermann was appointed in September to oversee operations and make sure the facility met legislated standards within the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA).

Island Health says the contract was set to expire on March 31st but the North Island Medical Health Officer recommended she stay until July 31st.

That recommendation was based on reports that suggested while considerable progress at Comox Valley Seniors Village had taken place, the site required Abermann to stay longer to make sure sustainable systems and staffing can be maintained when she leaves.

The CCALA outlines that operators must demonstrate ongoing progress towards system stability and compliance, to the satisfaction of the administrator, Licensing and the Medical Health Officer, before an administrator is removed from a site.

The Comox Valley Seniors Village is a privately owned 136-bed long-term care facility operated by Pacific Reach Seniors Housing Management. Island Health publicly funds 120 of the beds.
