Strathcona Regional District continues to provide services for local builders and developers

The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) is continuing to provide its resources amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The district’s employees are responsible for numerous community services like planning, building, parks and engineering.

Though staff are working from home, they’re remaining “connected with the community through telephone, email and other electronic means,” says Senior Manager Aniko Nelson.

“With the health and safety of our employees and the community our top priority, some service methods have changed, but we continue to provide options to allow ongoing service delivery to our residents.”

The district has developed new procedures so it can provide important services safely while efficiently processing development applications.

With a few limitations, it’s continuing to provide, process or issue:

  • Planning applications such as zoning or official community plan amendments, development permits, development variance permits – processed electronically
  • New Building Permit Applications – received electronically and/or via SRD reception dropbox (990 Cedar Street weekdays from 9:00am to 4:00pm)
  • Building Inspections, where required public health directives can be met
  • Engineering Applications such as water and sewer service requests
  • BC One Calls continue as normal

In-person meetings are now being held over the phone, through email or video conferencing.

The SRD is not taking cash transactions at this time, but cheques by mail or electronic payments are still being accepted.

“Although COVID-19 related restrictions may affect development processing times, we are committed to limit the impact this will have on our residents,” Nelson adds.
