School District 72 cancels some bus routes for June

Due to physical distancing protocols, School District 72 is cancelling bus routes.

The district says its bus fleet is “simply not large enough to meet the reduced ridership requirements and running multiple trips would mean significant delays for students arriving to and from school.”

Students who usually rely on the now cancelled routes are being asked to find other ways to get to class.

Not all services have been scrapped though, with special needs students, First Nations communities, elementary aged students who live in Oyster River and attend Ocean Grove Elementary, and those in the outlying communities of Quadra, Cortes and Sayward still able to catch the bus.

Routes 1 through 7 have been cancelled, with Routes 8 through 12 unchanged. The district has altered Route 16, with four new routes (A, B, C, D) now added.

For those students still able to take the bus, a daily health check is required.

“We ask parents of elementary aged students to have a responsible adult wait at the bus stop with their child in the morning as children who are unwell will be required to return home,” the district adds.
