Fitness pods, pickleball courts to open in Strathcona Gardens next week

Campbell River’s Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex will begin a gradual reopening of some services next week.

The dry floor space in Arena #2 is set to open on June 24th at 8:30am.

The Strathcona Regional District says the space has been reinvented and follows two-metre physical distancing requirements.

For a temporary period, the arena has been transformed with eight individual fitness pods that allow for strength and cardiovascular workouts.

There are also three pickleball courts.

On-ice camps, private skating and hockey lessons are on the schedule for July, followed by the reintroduction of aquatic services for a potential fall start.

“We want to reassure the community that the health and wellness of our patrons and employees is of paramount importance and is at the forefront of all the decisions in our reopening plans,” said Deputy Manager Ryan Christison. “There will be screening during both registration and through a series of questions just prior to accessing the space, and patrons will be reminded of guidelines of use before entering the facility.”

After months of being away from the facility, Christison added that staff are eager to welcome back visitors and provide them with options to get active while focusing on fitness goals.

Starting this coming Monday, you’re encouraged to visit the Strathcona Gardens website for online bookings.

You can also get in touch with a customer service representative Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm to register for a pod, pickleball court, or any of the upcoming summer ice camps and private skating/hockey lessons.
