Campbell River nightclub reopening brings fights at closing time

The Campbell River RCMP is investigating after multiple fights occurred in front of JJ’s Nightclub on Cedar Street.

On both June 12th and 13th, fights broke out after close while people waited for their rides home.

“Alcohol was clearly a factor in these altercations,” said Constable Maury Tyre. “It’s great to see establishments reopening, but apparently people need to be reminded to maintain their physical distancing and act appropriately in public especially where liquor is involved.”

Tyre added there will be more police patrols at night with the goal of ensuring impaired drivers don’t hit the road.

Meanwhile, as of June 16th, the Campbell River RCMP responded to 7,068 calls for service so far this year.

That’s approximately three fewer files per day when compared to the same period last year.
