Tidemark Theatre to host ‘Weirder Things’ summer camp

The Tidemark Theatre and On The Mark Theatre are travelling back to the 80s with a new summer camp.

‘Weirder Things’ is running August 17th through 28th from 9:00am to 3:00pm each day, both virtually and on-site at the Tidemark in downtown Campbell River.

It’s open to students between the ages of 8 and 14.

The Tidemark says participants will put on a production set in the 1980s that revolves around a group of children that attend “a normal school in the normal town of Tediousville.”

They’ll then be drawn into an unbelievable series of weird events.

“At first, they come across a purple goo covering their favourite swimming spot in the woods,” the Tidemark says. “When investigating this weird occurrence, one of them is pulled in. When the youth tell their story, no one believes them until ‘Weirder Things’ start to happen in the small town.”

During the two week camp, participants will explore theatre skills and acting techniques like character development, vocal projection, improvisation and memorization.

They’ll also discover what goes on behind the scenes while working alongside mentors in the areas of lighting, sound, props costuming and stage management.

The camp is running in accordance with current provincial COVID-19 guidelines and a list of protocols will be provided upon registration to all students and their families.

Due to current public health restrictions, the Tidemark says there are limited on-site and virtual spots available.

On-site camp registration is $225 (plus applicable taxes and fees) and virtual camp registration is $125 (plus applicable taxes and fees).

To register, visit this website or call the Tidemark box office at (250) 287-PINK.
