The City of Campbell River is looking at options to address downtown safety and cleanliness concerns.
It held a special virtual meeting last week to discuss the issues brought forward by businesses surveyed in June by the Downtown Business Improvement Association.
Survey results found that businesses feel the area is unsafe, and the alleys are filthy.
“Council shares community concerns about the increase in unacceptable and inappropriate behaviour,” says Mayor Andy Adams. “We agree that this must be addressed and cannot continue.”

Adams says the city has made significant investments to improve the downtown area and appreciates hearing constructive comments from community representatives.
“The next step will be for council to review the summary of the suggestions. We had twelve delegations that presented to council during the meeting, and council will determine which options are feasible to pursue at this time and which ones we need to reach out to our provincial partners for assistance on.”
Adams adds, “thankfully, we have a number of really solid relationships and close partnerships to help us find solutions.”
