Holiday Charity Checkstop cruises into Campbell River this Saturday

Emergency services in Campbell River are gearing up for the Holiday Charity Checkstop, an annual event that’s all in support of Knights of Columbus’ Community Christmas Hamper Fund

Police and fire crews will be volunteering their time at the COVID-safe checkstop, scheduled for this coming Saturday, December 5th from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Curling Rink on Cedar Street.

While properly masked and gloved, they’ll be collecting donations of unwrapped toys and non-perishable food items from Campbell Riverites drive-thru style. Just pull up and drop off your donation.

“We recognize that this holiday season is going to hit some people particularly hard and the charities that help people can have a difficult time with their fundraising efforts,” says Constable Maury Tyre.

For 47 years, the Knights have been helping struggling individuals and families in Campbell River and surrounding areas by delivering hampers filled with goods just before Christmas. The annual Holiday Charity Checkstop goes a long way in supporting the Hamper Fund.

If you’re in need of a hamper this year, you’ll need to fill out an application. Application forms can be found at the Hamper Fund office, located inside the former True Blue pet store in the Tyee Plaza on Shopper’s Row. The office is open Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am till 5:00 pm, and forms need to be returned by December 5th. Find more info here.
