BC Ferries testing new hybrid vessel, two-ship service on Campbell River – Quadra Island route this week

BC Ferries’ newest battery electric-hybrid vessel is set to sail on the Campbell River – Quadra Island route for an operational trial this week.

Those who need to travel for essential reasons can try out the Island Aurora and experience this new class of vessel safely, while following COVID-19 protocols.

It will sail alongside with the Powell River Queen, which will operate on its regular schedule during the trial.

On December 4th and 5th, customers can sail aboard the new ship and regular fares will apply.

Starting tomorrow (Dec. 4th), it will carry passengers and cars between 12:00 pm and 5:30 pm. Then, on Saturday (Dec. 5th), passengers can hop aboard between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm.

As this is an operational trial, BC Ferries adds that timing is subject to change without notice. The trial will help crews learn how these ships operate, including loading and sailing times.

Then, in early 2022, two of the new hybrid vessels will set sail along the route, replacing the Powell River Queen. Find more details here.
