City of Campbell River offers vote by mail option in upcoming by-election

With Campbell River’s by-election just over a month away, the City wants locals to know that voting by mail is an option.

This means you can cast your vote from the comforts of home, without having to step out your front door on general voting day.

Voters will be electing one city councillor on February 27th to fill the seat vacated by Michele Babchuk, who was elected as North Island MLA during the last provincial election.

As vote by mail proves crucial during a pandemic, the City says it’s making some changes to its election processes in order to follow precautions protecting the health of both election officials and voters.

To vote by mail, the City is urging you to complete its online application form by February 5th. But if you miss this deadline, don’t worry – you can still vote by mail.

However, the City says a ballot package won’t be mailed to you. You’ll have to apply to pick one up at City Hall instead.

Completed ballot packages must then be mailed back to City Hall no later than 4:30 pm on February 26th. They can also be dropped off in-person at the Sportsplex between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm on February 27th.

The City wants locals to keep in mind that ballots received after the deadline will be marked as spoiled, meaning they won’t be included in the final vote count.
