As we gear up for summer, it looks like another Campbell River tradition is facing cancellation this year… Canada Day Fireworks.
In a letter to council, Carol Chapman with the Canada Day Committee says “it’s not looking so good for our fireworks. Ian and I meet with our health officer regarding permitting for our fireworks, she said ‘no.’”
For the second year in a row, Canada Day plans in Campbell River have been altered due to the pandemic. Last year, the event was held virtually.
Chapman says “our variant Covid cases are dominating,” adding the annual event could be a “superspreader.”
“We don’t need that negative impact on our 20 years of successful Canada Day celebrations,” she explains.
Mayor Andy Adams says this comes as unfortunate news, “but knowing Carol, when we finally get through this 2022 will be a spectacular show.”
