Tyabji charged with importing a controlled substance

A Calgary man — the son of a former B.C. MLA — has been charged with importing a controlled substance after border guards found fentanyl in a parcel meant for a Calgary address.

Kasimir Tyabji, 27, remains in custody and is scheduled to next appear in court on Aug. 17.
Tyabji is the son of former B.C. Liberal MLA Judi Tyabji who currently resides in Powell River.

In 1991 Judi Tyabji became the youngest MLA elected to the B.C. Legislature and went on to become the first woman to have a child while in office.
