Campbell River Fire recruiting paid-on-call firefighters

Campbell River fire crews are keeping busy battling blazes, as they put out a call for more recruits to join their team next year.

The local department is now accepting applications to fill the 2022 ‘Paid-on-Call’ Firefighter Training Program.

A free information session, providing an overview of the program, is set for Monday, Nov. 15 at 6:30 pm, in Room 2 at the Sportsplex on South Alder St.

According to the City of Campbell River, the session will also highlight the recruitment process, time commitments and expectations, and the services provided by the fire department.

For an invite, people must register for the info session by emailing [email protected]. When in attendance, masks must be worn.

Every year, the City says it seeks “responsible and accountable team players” to help with combatting and preventing fires, as well as supporting local community initiatives.

“Paid-on-call firefighters in Campbell River serve for a number of reasons, including the chance to be part of a diversified team, and to have the opportunity to face challenges and serve the community,” adds deputy fire chief Kelly Bellefleur. “We’re welcoming anyone who’s interested to join us for this information session.”

Locals can visit this website for more information about the recruitment process or to download an application package. Applications will be accepted until 8 am on Nov. 29.
