Annual Christmas Charity Drive set for Dec. 4

Grab some canned food and toys, or dig into your wallet for some extra cash. Just over a week to go until the annual Campbell River RCMP Christmas Charity Drive.

It’s set for Saturday, Dec. 4, and it’s all in support of the Knights of Columbus Christmas Hamper Fund.

Between 1 pm and 5 pm outside the Dogwood St. curling rink, local RCMP officers and fire crews will be on site collecting donations of non-perishable foods, unwrapped toys and money.

“Stop by and see your local police, fire department and the illustrious Safety Bear and help others have a great Christmas,” says Cst. Maury Tyre. “Hope to see you there!”

Rallying together locals and some holiday cheer, the Knights look to provide hampers to well over a thousand households in Campbell River and surrounding areas just in time for Christmas.

In all, 1050 hampers will be packed with food for Christmas Day and beyond, with 700 also including new gifts for kids and seniors.

The 2021 season got underway last Monday (Nov. 15) and the Knights are now collecting donations both online and in person.

In addition to the Dec. 4 Charity Drive, money, non-perishable food and new gift donations can be dropped off at their hamper donation office at Discovery Harbour Shopping Centre, near Spinners.

This month, the office is open Monday to Saturday from 10 am until 4 pm, and in December, it’s open an hour later until 5 pm.

Locals in need of a hamper are also invited to pick up a registration form between those hours. Find more details here.
