With Christmas only a month away, Campbell River’s Chamber of Commerce is putting out an ‘urgent request’ for people to shop and support local this holiday season.
Despite fears of supply shortages, the Chamber’s executive director, Mary Ruth Snyder, says stores around town are stocked and ready to go.
“All of our retailers have been getting ready for this Christmas, since last Christmas,” Snyder tells My Campbell River Now.
“They saw how interested people were in supporting local stores, so right after last Christmas, they started getting in touch with all of their suppliers and started getting stuff in all through the spring and summer,” Snyder says.
But the local push is echoed now more than ever, especially through the COVID-19 pandemic. That’s because shops in places like downtown, Merecroft and Campbellton are run by those we know best.
“The local businesses are owned by your friends and neighbours,” Snyder explains. “Local sports teams are sponsored by those local stores, and it might be your children or grandchildren that play on these teams.”
She continues, “We have retailers in every area of the city and they are all ready and just really looking forward to having you stop by and see what they have on offerings for the holidays.”
Snyder’s also encouraging people to check out the Big Truck Parade, set to make its return to Campbell River next Friday, Dec. 3.
“It’s going to be a blast. I cannot wait,” she adds. “Seeing all of those trucks all decked out for Christmas, in addition to all of the festive decorations that you will find in every area of the city, it’s going to be amazing.”
