Snow day for School District 72, North Island College

It’s a snow day for students in Campbell River, as the local school district and North Island College keep their doors closed due to accumulating snowfall.

In a Facebook post, School District 72 said its schools would be closed today, Jan. 6, to all students and staff.

North Island College has also pulled the plug on all Thursday classes and orientation sessions at its Campbell River, Comox Valley, Port Hardy and Port Alberni campuses.

NIC will be posting more updates to this website but notes the heavy snowfall is to blame.

In Campbell River, as of 9:30 am, the snow continues to fall, with a winter storm warning still in effect for East Vancouver Island from Duncan to Campbell River.

Environment Canada said up to 25 cm of snowfall was expected to blanket the region before mixing with rain or patchy freezing rain sometime this morning.
