Clear snow and ice off your car before hitting the road, RCMP warns

Campbell River RCMP reminds winter drivers to take it slow on the roads, even if they seem plowed and in good shape.

For everyone’s safety, local Cst. Maury Tyre says drivers must clear all snow from their vehicles before taking off and driving.

“Obviously, blowing snow off your vehicle can cause all sorts of problems for the driver behind you,” Tyre said in a Thursday morning Facebook video.

“If you haven’t cleared the snow off your vehicle, you can be subject to a $109 fine under the Motor Vehicle Act – Section 195,” he said.

Tyre’s expecting officers will be called to quite a few accidents today, Jan. 6, and says it’s essential drivers clean the ice off their vehicle as well.

If they don’t, it could lead to a hazardous situation, as the ice is considered an “insecure load” and may fly off and damage another vehicle or hit a pedestrian.
