International Overdose Awareness Day in the books

Monday was International Overdose Awareness Day, and last year in BC, approximately 350 people died due to an overdose.

Since it was launched in 2012, Toward the Heart has helped distribute more than 3000 overdose prevention kits in BC, and roughly 260 have been used to reverse an overdose.

The program is run by the BC Centre for Disease Control, but epidemiologist Ashraf Amlani says they rely on help from harm reduction sites across the province.

Amlani says, to date, about 4500 people have been trained to administer a potentially live-saving dose of Naloxone
