Police seek information after stolen vehicle found on Quadra Island

Quadra RCMP are looking for information after a stolen vehicle was found at the Morte Lake Trailhead.

RCMP say they got a call for a wellness check at around 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 9. The complainant was concerned because a man was acting erratically standing next to a stuck vehicle on the trailhead.

Police also say they were told the man was only wearing underpants and a t-shirt while he chopped wood with an axe.

The man had left when officers arrived, but RCMP say they found the vehicle was stuck and the man had tried to chop down the tree to help wedge the vehicle out.

After investigation, officers found the vehicle to be stolen and the man was acting erratically because he was upset he had crashed it, according to Quadra RCMP.

They add multiple stolen items were also located outside in the parking lot.

The vehicle’s owner, who didn’t know his vehicle was stolen, was contacted and confirmed he had left his vehicle unlocked with the keys inside, according to police.

RCMP ask anyone who has knowledge of this incident to call Quadra RCMP at 250-285-3631.
