BC Ferries cancels afternoon sailings from Campbell River to Quadra Island

The compound of a mechanical issue and forecasted strong winds means BC Ferries sailings between Campbell River and Quadra Island are cancelled this afternoon.

The Powell River Queen has an issue with one of its right-angle drives and BC Ferries says this lowers the ferry’s tolerance to strong wind.

The issues mean sailings as of 3:05 p.m. and onwards are cancelled. A breakdown of the cancellations is as follows:

  • 3:05 p.m. departing Quathiaski Cove (Quadra Island)
  • 3:30 p.m. departing Campbell River 
  • 4 p.m. departing Quathiaski Cove (Quadra Island) 
  • 4:30 p.m. departing Campbell River 
  • 5 p.m. departing Quathiaski Cove (Quadra Island) 
  • 5:25 p.m. departing Campbell River 
  • 5:50 p.m. departing Quathiaski Cove (Quadra Island) 
  • 6:15 p.m. departing Campbell River 
  • 7 p.m. departing Quathiaski Cove (Quadra Island) 
  • 7:30 p.m. departing Campbell River 
  • 8 p.m. departing Quathiaski Cove (Quadra Island) 
  • 8:30 p.m. departing Campbell River 
  • 9 p.m. departing Quathiaski Cove (Quadra Island) 
  • 9:30 p.m. departing Campbell River 
  • 10 p.m. departing Quathiaski Cove (Quadra Island) 
  • 10:30 p.m. departing Campbell River 

They say all other scheduled sailings on the route are expected to continue for the afternoon. A 12-passenger water taxi will be providing complimentary foot passenger service on the same schedule as the cancelled sailings.

BC Ferries says they apologize for the inconvenience.
