Transit woes continue for at least another week

Campbell River’s public transit system continues to suffer from a shortage of drivers, with routes being cancelled daily for weeks.

And cancellations will continue this week, BC Transit advised in a statement Friday.

The issues are expected to continue at least until September 17 , resulting in the need to sometimes alter schedules and cancel trips on short notice. The transit corporation says it understands the impact disruptions are having on riders and is doing its best to notify customers immediately.

Riders can sign up for alerts on BC Transit’s schedule and alerts page for Campbell River, and they can also use the Transit app for smartphones, which includes information about route cancellations and delays.

BC Transit’s contractor for Campbell River and the Comox Valley, PWTransit, is hiring full-time drivers for both communities.

The issues have been ongoing since June.
