A driver suffered no serious injuries after a single vehicle crash closed South Island Highway near 6th Avenue.
The crash happened early yesterday morning. Campbell River RCMP got a call from a witness who saw a Jeep crash into a power pole on the highway.
Media relations officer for Campbell River RCMP Cst. Maury Tyre says the Jeep had swerved, leading to the accident.
“The investigation by the RCMP determined there was no drug or alcohol use involved in this incident,” said Tyre. “What happened is that the individual operating the vehicle fell asleep after working a night shift.”
Tyre says the driver was the only person in the vehicle. He adds that if you feel overtired, you should not get behind the wheel.
“We do recommend taking a nap beforehand if you can, keep your windows open because fresh air can help, take a little walk before you get in the vehicle,” said Tyre.
“The big ones are to make sure you have fresh air, know how much sleep you’ve had, and try give somebody a call to get a ride.”
