Electronic attendance at city council is allowed by city

Under the City of Campbell River’s procedure bylaw a city Councillor is allowed to participate in meetings electronically, says city clerk Peter Wipper.

The issue has been stirred up after Councillor Ryan Mennie announced his move to Alberta and his plan to stay on council and attend meetings via Skype.

Wipper explains what recourse there is for people who do not like the situation.

Mennie will continue to collect his city salary which Wipper says is about $10,500 until his term is up this winter.
